Good morning on the 15th of August, The Liberation Day of the Motherland in Free Korea, and also the Day of the Return of the Light in occupied Korea commemorating the capitulation of Japan in 1945 and the end of colonial rule on the peninsula. One of these are – of course – truer than the other, just like India’s and the Congo’s Independence Days – from Britain and France respectively – also celebrated today. In Paraguay, it is the founding day of Asunción – the capital and largest city – remembering the horror of the arrival of the Spaniards in 1537. It is also the first day of Wafaa El-Nil – the Flooding of the Nile – in Egypt, a two week annual holiday rich with ceremonies, poetically ascribed to Isis’s tears of sorrow for Osiris, killed by their brother, Set.
Henry Kissinger, the 99-year old enemy of people everywhere has once again emerged as a lone voice for reason this weekend, on the pages of the venerable Wall Street Journal, speaking of a lost Equilibrium among hostile powers, in other words adjusting to the new Multi-Polar World we here have been talking about for half a year now. I wish he would be listened to, but I’m truly afraid he won’t be, because there are other, psychotic voices out there painting brand new nightmares like Simon Tisdall, who penned an interesting piece on the pages of the Observer, the Sunday version of the Guardian.
He starts off sanely enough, describing the “widening gap between rhetoric and reality”, and describing NATO’s “less than heroic refusal to get directly involved” in the Ukraine conflict and “public outrage over the invasion is giving way to concern, bordering on panic, about its alarming knock-on effects on energy and food prices and the cost of living”, leading his fear-addled mind to an uncomfortable question : Should the Ukrainians prepare for a stab in the back this winter? Elensky certainly should – and he is acting even more unpredictably than ever – but let us not forget that the people of Ukraine have had no voice in the running of their country since 2014.
What does this healthy dose of reality cause in the fabled Western Thinker? It’s simple : We should escalate, and target the Big Bad Vlad himself, who is described in language I will not reproduce here. He – Simon concurs – is unfit to rule, even though his current approval rate is 86% among the Russian People. With him gone – according to the Tisdall mind – the crisis would easily be resolved, and represents Ukrainians’ – and Russians’ – only hope for a “happy ending”.
While these words are clearly insane, I think I understand them. The United Kingdom has some elite voices which have always hated Russia for historic reasons going back a hundred years. They were first humiliated when Russia ended its monarchy once and for all and England did not. They were humiliated again when the Soviets outperformed their collective economies by a factor of four during the rapid industrialization period, and a final time when the Reich was destroyed in a failed attempt to crush the Soviet Union. They had their tiny victory parades when they took revenge on the people in 1991, but ever since the Big Bad Vlad took took the wheel, all of this hatred and paranoia has resurfaced because Russia and China haver re-emerged and are widely accepted as world powers, and the United Kingdom is not, and never will be again. The Tisdalls of the world would do better focusing on the incredibly tectonic tensions within their own country than engaging in such dangerous fantasies.
Across the pond – where Trump has demanded the FBI return his seized documents – the voices of the powerful are no more sane. Nancy Pelosi – whose son, Paul Pelosi was carefully airbrushed out of her historically insulting Taiwan visit, now turns out to be the second largest shareholder ( with 700,000 shares! ) in the Chinese tech-firm Borqs Technologies – is leading the charge in trying to label Russia as a state sponsor of t*rrorism, either via Congress or by putting pressure on the State Department, which has that power. This move would constitute a point of no return in Moscow, and would lead to the complete severing of all ties that still remain between Russia and the US despite the thousands of sanctions.
I’m sure Pelosi and Lindsey Graham think of themselves as historic sculptors of US foreign policy, but I don’t believe they truly understand the scope of global ramifications of such a policy. Every country on Earth has watched this administration go down the road of thievery and thuggery, and they know they could be the next country to have their reserves simply stolen, their neighbors militarized against them if they hold on to their Partnerships™ with the US and her Allies™, and if this final step is taken it would only speed up the abandonment of the dollar, of NATO and all Western Institutions that have been made untrustworthy by the actions of a single, historic administration in Washington.
The administration which most recently has warned Members of Congress NOT to take unauthorized trips to Kiev. After the surreality of every European idiot visiting Elensky in his green T-shirts, the White House is now worried for these people’s safety, risking a direct confrontation with Russia, lacking “the footprint on the ground to take care of them”, while the regime over there is printing money because “with Western Funds slow to arrive” it is “scraping to pay its soldiers”, and threatening Vitali Klitschko – the mayor of Kiev – with deprivation of citizenship, the guy who just urged his citizens to prepare warm clothes for the Winter..
While poor little Georgia deserves a word because they received a list of demands by the Eurocrats they need to fulfill in order to enter the Union – something I don’t know why anyone would seek, ask the Greeks what “benefits” EU membership has brought them, or ask me about Hungary’s road to European Poverty – by unelected functionaries who wouldn’t recognize democracy or an election if they saw it, I don’t think it deserves more than a mention, because I don’t think the institute will last more than a few years at this current pace of decay.
The final nails in our coffins were introduced by EU High Priest Josep Borrell on the pages of the Spanish El Pais late last week, where he declared that “We are at war. These things are not free”, and the costs should be distributed “equitably”. Not a single European country has declared war, but the second part of his little exclamation is simple : Those who lack energy or resources should take them from those who do not. This also means Hungary, which is enjoying a boost of Russian Gas – via Türkstream – and Oil – via Druzhba, even though Ukraine tried to stop it, targeting us, the Czech Republic and Slovakia – this weekend, so after the death of the Schengen freedom of movement, the Union is now entering its final, cannibalistic stage, and as a Hungarian man, I say : Just try it, Josep.
We are marching towards Oblivion, while some of my friends are busy planning holiday trips to beach-resorts and the fabled European capitals like Paris – believing Everything is Fiiiiine™ -, which I really look forward to hearing about, and I can illustrate it with four stories left without any comment from me.
First we have the tragic case of an Italian Ice cream maker, who received a €5,128 electricity bill for July, an increase of 468% compared to last year. Second we have the baltic midget Estonia, integrating the coastal defenses of the country with Finlands, turning the Baltic ino “NATO’s internal sea”, closing it off to the Russian Navy “if need be”, something I’m sure Russia will simply allow. Then we have the German handicraft company OBI, whose entire Russian business with all assets were just sold for 600 rubles, or in other words : Nationalized in an instant. And finally we have the world famous Globe Theater in London, which is working on a new production of the historic resistance figure of France : Jean d’Arc, or Joan of Arc. She will not only embody the spirit of resistance and revolution, in fact she can no longer be described with the pronoun : She. They will be gender-neutral, “alive, queer and full of hope”. The end.
No don’t worry, I will include a much more pleasant video, made by the French animation studio Barracudas which will sum up the last six months of global events better than a thousand words. Watch that instead! If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading and have a lovely Monday afternoon or evening, whatever sky looks down upon you reading these lines.
